Many students come to study in Germany every year. There are several types of universities, like classical universities, universities of applied science, church-based universities and private universities. Each of these schools has a lot to offer. The terms and conditions vary, depending on which type of education you choose.
Universities in Germany
Classical universities offer different types of programs in law, medicine, social and natural sciences. Some of these schools offer their students online programs and distance learning. There are also specialized universities, like medical, technical and teaching.
Some schools combine research and teaching. This can be a great experience for students, no matter which field they choose to study.
Universities of applied science offer Master’s (or Bachelor’s) degree. Germany has nearly 160 universities of this type. These schools are more focused on teaching, and they offer degrees created for specific industries and jobs. Universities of applied science have a lot to offer, but you cannot get a doctorate. If you want to get a PhD, you need to go to a classical university.
Some universities are associated with Catholic and Evangelical churches and they train future priests. However, you can study other fields, like health care or social work. These schools are very popular, and sometimes they have more applicants than they can actually accept, so they have their own application system.
If you are interested in studying and working, you can apply at a career academy. There are several academies in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Berlin, Thuringia and Saxony. These schools offer a Bachelor’s degree.
There are nearly eighty private schools in Germany. Students need to pay tuition, which can be quite pricey.
