There are many reasons to study in Sweden. Tuition is affordable and Swedish universities are internationally recognized. This country has a great health system and strong economy. You will enjoy living in Sweden.
Education in Sweden
The country is known for high education standards. Some Swedish universities are on the list of the world’s top universities. The Nobel Prize, the most respected academic award, was actually born in this country.
Most education institutions are subsidized by the Swedish government, which means students don’t have to pay for education (in most cases). Multiculturalism is one of the priorities in the Swedish education system, so international students are encouraged to come to Sweden.
Undergraduate programs require proficiency in Swedish, which may be a problem for students who don’t speak the language. However, there are several undergraduate programs for English-speaking students:
Malmo University College
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Jonkoping International Business School
IT University of Gothenburg
Malardalen University College
Accommodation for Students
The Student Accommodation Association can help you find housing. Private housing is more expensive than university housing. Students who want to come to Sweden should contact their student union as soon as possible, because that’s the best way to find accommodation.
This country has many great things to offer, but climate is not one of them! Winters are cold, and days are dark and short; during the summer season, you can see the midnight sun (this is actually interesting and you’ll love it). However, be prepared for low temperatures!
The public transportation system is excellent, and students have discounts for buses, trams, trains, etc. Learn more about the cost of living in Sweden.
How to Study in Sweden
First, you have to find the best program for you. There are more than six hundred master’s degree programs and forty bachelor’s degree programs in English.
Applying to the program is your next step. You will just have to follow the instructions for your application. You can apply for 4 different programs (at different schools) with one application.
After this, you will have to wait for the acceptance notification.
When you receive your acceptance notification, you will have to apply for a residence visa. The process can take some time, so it is better to apply as soon as you get your acceptance notification.
To get a residence visa, you need to:
• Prove you’ve been accepted to study full-time. If you are not an EU citizen (or a citizen of Switzerland), you will have to pay tuition for the first semester.
• Prove you have enough money to support yourself during your studies (7,300 SEK/month minimum).
• Submit the application form and specific information required by the Swedish Migration Board.
Some of the most popular universities in Sweden include Lund University and Stockholm University. To learn more about other universities, read the list of universities in Sweden.
